Salcombe Gin reveals gift set duo of cask aged gin and sherry

29 November, 2017

Salcombe Distilling Co has linked up with Spain’s oldest known sherry house to create its latest limited-edition gift set.

The set contains the South Devon distiller’s aged Finisterre gin, which derives its name from the Spanish ‘finis terre’, which means the end of the earth. The gift set comes with an accompanying bottle of ultra traditional Bodegas Tradicion Fino sherry and the gin itself is aged in the same cask from which the accompanying Fino sherry was drawn.

Co-founder Angus Lugsdin said: “We are honoured to work with the prestigious Bodegas Tradicion to create a limited batch of 825 bottles of cask aged gin. The fresh citrus notes are tempered through the cask ageing process which takes approximately three months, creating wonderful candied citrus aromas and moreish saline notes from the aged Fino. The result is a complex yet sophisticated gin with great character and depth of flavour.”

Co-founder Howard Davies added: “We have always been curious about cask aged gin and are thrilled with this extraordinary product. Delicious served on it own over ice, mixed with a premium tonic water or our perfect serve is in a Martini married with the delectable Fino in place of the more traditional vermouth.”

The Finisterre gift set, which contains a 70cl bottle of gin with accompanying Fino Sherry, is £95 from national independent retailers, farm shops, online or direct from the distillery.

The shops that stand out from the madding crowd

The judges met last week to sort out the winners in the independent categories of our 2018 Drinks Retailing Awards. The results are top secret until the awards dinner on February 6 but it’s giving nothing away to report that the overall standard of those that will be revealed in the shortlist of finalists in the January issue of DRN is higher than it’s ever been.
