Guinness cans get a limited-edition makeover

08 November, 2017

Guinness is launching two limited-edition can designs to celebrate John Gilroy, the artist behind some of the brand’s most iconic advertisements.

Cans featuring two of his most well known Guinness designs - the flying toucan and lobster – are available now across the off-trade.

Nin Taank, Guinness brand manager, said: “Guinness is known as an iconic advertiser, continuing to drive growth in the beer category. Taking designs from some of our most iconic campaigns from the past, we are delighted to give consumers a piece of this history via these nostalgic can designs and enjoy the same great tasting Guinness beer at home.

“We are really excited to celebrate the anniversary of John Gilroy’s birth by revealing these two striking designs which are sure to create huge interest among not only loyal Guinness fans, but also bring new consumers to the brand.

“Due to a sizeable marketing investment and with previous proven success in the US, Australia and Canada, we believe the limited-edition cans will prove popular among shoppers and help to boost sales.”

Gilroy’s work for Guinness appeared between the 1930s and 1950s.

Sales of Guinness are up by 1.4% in the off-trade, according to Nielsen data (year to 09.09.2017).

Agreeing to disagree

Disagreeing about wine is a fact of wine-trade life, like drugs in sport or corruption in politics. Because taste is entirely subjective, debates about our personal preferences are as inevitable as they are interminable. Indeed, these long-winded, wine-fuelled arguments are precisely what make our jobs so much fun.
