Innis & Gunn calls on beer fans for recipe inspiration

01 November, 2017

Innis & Gunn has launched a competition to collaborate with beer fans in creating unique brews.

The Scottish craft brewer has launched its Imagine & Gunn competition, which calls on those “bursting with ideas and a taste for great beer” to enter with a creative beer flavour. Entrants will be vying for the chance to brew a new limited edition barrel-aged beer with founder and master brewer, Dougal Gunn Sharp, at the Innis & Gunn Brewery in Perth, Scotland.

The most inspiring ideas will be selected for a shortlist that will go to a public vote across the UK. The overall winner will be invited to brew their beer at the brewery and the new limited-edition beer will bear the winner’s name when sold across the UK in the summer of 2018.

Sharp said: “Ideas can come from anywhere and everywhere, and Imagine & Gunn really excites me because the possibilities for beer are limitless. The competition is our way of inspiring beer drinkers to look at their beer and see something new – similar to when I had my own lightbulb moment which created our first beer, Original, and now our unique barrel ageing process where we put the barrels into the beer. We have never stopped experimenting and innovating and I hope this inspires people to get involved with Imagine & Gunn.”

Innis & Gunn has used traditional barrel-ageing methods to create beers with raspberries, maple syrup and jalapeno chillies in its 2017 limited edition range.

The Imagine & Gunn programme was originally launched in Sweden in 2016 with Mika’s Choice, a Bourbon Barrel-Aged Jalapeno Imperial Stout being crowned the winning beer. It is now on sale across Sweden and in the UK. The competition also ran in Canada, and the competition is currently open there.

The UK can submit flavour ideas until 15 November and the winner will be announced in December this year.

The shops that stand out from the madding crowd

The judges met last week to sort out the winners in the independent categories of our 2018 Drinks Retailing Awards. The results are top secret until the awards dinner on February 6 but it’s giving nothing away to report that the overall standard of those that will be revealed in the shortlist of finalists in the January issue of DRN is higher than it’s ever been.
