Kingfisher brings Lion beers to UK

18 October, 2017

Kingfisher Beer Europe has announced its has reached an agreement with Lion Brewery of Sri Lanka to market and distribute their flagship brands Lion Lager and Lion Stout across the UK and selected European markets.

Lion, which has the strapline ‘the Pride of Sri Lanka’ and has been brewed since 1881. The brand has more than 80% market share in its home market, as well as being the market leader in the Maldives.

The lager uses roasted malts to give it a golden colour, and milk fruity and caramel notes.

The stout, which features in Roger Protz’s famous ‘300 beers to try before you die’ book, is also the only beer to be officially endorsed by the late beer expert, Michael Jackson. The super-premium stout is almost black in colour and it is “surprisingly sweet” with hints of mocha.

Damon Swarbrick, ceo of Kingfisher Beer Europe, said: “We are excited about providing the UK market with another authentic leading Asian beer rich in historuy and relevance within the discovery beer segment. We see Lion perfectly complementing Kingfisher in our expanding portfolio.”
Both Lion products are available in 33cl and 62cl bottles as well as 33cl cans. The beers have recently been rebranded with new packaging.

Indeed, these long-winded, wine-fuelled arguments are precisely what make our jobs so much fun.
