Former Dunelm finance boss Stead joins Majestic board

10 October, 2017

Majestic Wine has appointed David Stead as an independent non-executive director, with effect from November 1.

Stead is currently a non-executive director of Card Factory and the clothing and homeware company Joules Group.

He was chief financial officer of Dunelm from 2003 until his retirement in 2015 and was finance director of Boots from 1991 until 2003.

Majestic chairman Greg Hodder said: “He brings significant retail and financial expertise to the board. I am confident his background and experience will fit well with our existing directors’ skills and support the group as we transform into a growth company."

Stead will be a member of Majestic's audit, nomination and remuneration committees.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
