Wadworth brews up Treacle Treat for Halloween

Wiltshire brewer Wadworth has brewed a limited edition beer for Halloween.

Treacle Treat is available throughout October on draught and in bottles with an rrp of £2.10 a bottle.

The dark ale has an abv of 4.2% and has been made using Target hops, and pale ale, crystal, brown and black malts.

It has been sweetened with treacle syrup and liquorice root.

Head brewer Andy Weaver said: “The addition of treacle syrup makes it one of the sweetest and most distinctive tasting Wadworth beers to date.”

The pack design was inspired by Mexico’s Day of the Dead holiday.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
