Online retailer appoints new chief executive

Online drinks retailer has appointed former Naked Wines sales and marketing director James Bagley as its new chief executive.

He takes charge of parent company DMD Ventures, which recently purchased wholesaler Vanquish Operations.

Bagley was marketing director at Naked Wines in the UK, and then vice president of sales and marketing for its US arm, and DMD said he brings “him industry experience and a record of success in growth businesses”.

David Elghanayan and Jimmy Metta launched the company just three years ago but it already has a revenue of £15 million, up 100% year-on-year, offering next-day delivery of wine, spirits, Champagne and gifts.

Bagley said: “I relish the tremendous opportunity to apply my proven approach and acumen to the market-leading proposition that both and Vanquish have built. With award-winning customer service and a high-quality, curated product portfolio, this is the perfect time to invest in and scale the business. Our loyal customers, across consumer and trade, have a lot to look forward to.”

Vanquish Wine serves hotels, restaurants, clubs and bars across London, and Bagley will aim to grow this arm plus the online retail business.
