Majestic appoints Cat Lomax as Head of Buying
Majestic has promoted Cat Lomax to the position of Head of Buying at Majestic Wine.
She joined the company in May 2016 as a senior buyer, and she joined with a wealth of experience in wine buying, having previously held roles at Waitrose and also Direct Wines. She will also continue to oversee responsibilities as buyer for New Zealand, of which Majestic has a 14% category share. She also looks after key French regions and the USA.
In her new role Lomax will also be leading two areas which are at the heart of Majestic’s transformation plan: own-label and exclusivity. In her career with Majestic she has been instrumental in the creation of the recent Majestic Loves range, as well as numerous offerings from France. Own brand sales now comprise 4.7% of Majestic’s sales.
Over the past year she has specialised in seeking out parcels and she believes this works well with Majestic’s approach for buying.
She said: “I have had great success in securing parcels of wine, whether big, like our recent Parcel Series Sauvignon Blanc, or small, like Waimea’s first UK retailing Albarino. It’s a perfect fit to Majestic’s way of operating.”
Richard Weaver, buying and merchandising director, said: “We are delighted to have Cat overseeing our buying team. She has been instrumental in the last year in overseeing our biggest categories and introducing our most successful Parcels and WIGIGs and revamping many of our key ranges. It’s an extremely exciting time for Majestic wine fans.”
Since she joined the industry in 2009 Lomax has won ‘The Golden Magnum’ from the Champagne Academy and has been recognised as a Commandeur d’Honnear de La Commanderie du Bontemps for services to Bordeaux wine.
Lomax takes over from Matt Pym who recently left the company.
