Hop Burns & Black opens London's first can-only beer shop

23 May, 2017

Craft beer retailer Hop Burns & Black is opening a shop in Peckham solely dedicated to canned beer.

The HB&B Can Station at Serious Pig – so named because it is being set up in conjunction with craft meat specialist Serious Pig – will be a “Saturday-only summertime beer emporium” offering a wide variety of canned beers.

Hop Burns & Black founder, Jen Ferguson, said: “We are huge fans of canned beer; cans are easier to transport, they protect beer from one of its major enemies (light) and they look fantastic on shelf too. Plus you can fit a whole lot more of them in a fridge.

“With so many of our favourite breweries now canning their beers and the opportunity to take over a great space close to Peckham Rye Station, we thought, let’s devote an entire shop to cans.”

The store opens its doors on 10 June at Serious Pig’s railway arch under the tracks at Peckham Rye Station. The focus is on takeaway but as with the retailer’s permanent shop, customers can stau “for a cheeky drink” along with snacks from Serious Pig.

Ferguson said: “You could just head to our shop, where we’ve got the best craft beer selection in London just a few minutes up the road. But for those pressed for time or in neer of a train beer, we thought we’d bring the shop to the station, in can form.

“Each week we will pick the very best and freshest cans from the 350+ craft beers we stock and haul them over to the Can Station. Expect to find breweries such as Beavertown, Cloudwater, Magic Rock, Northern Monk, Verdant, Mikkeller, Evil Twin, Lervig, To Ol, yeastie Boys and many more. If it’s good and in a can, it’s there.”

The store will be open Saturdays over the summer from 12-6pm.
