Morrisons wine buying manager heads to top on-trade role

11 April, 2017

Morrisons' wine buying manager Andrew Ingham is leaving the retailer to take over as category manager for wine at Greene King.

Ingham has helped lead Morrisons to the title of International Wine Challenge Supermarket of the Year for two years in a row.

In that time its own-label offering has scooped a clutch of awards and drawn praise from various wine writers.

Ingham has previously served as wine category manager at Coles in Australia, beer category manager at Metro cash and carry and account manager at AB-Inbev.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
