Gormley to take charge of Majestic Retail as boss Colley steps aside

John Colley is to step down as managing director of Majestic Wine’s retail division.

Majestic said Colley was moving to a new job to be closer to his young children in the south of England. His last day will be May 31.

Majestic chief executive Rowan Gormley will add Colley’s responsibilities to his role.

Colley joined Majestic in September 2015 from Praxis, a Dutch DIY chain, where he was chief executive.

He is also a former commercial director of Screwfix and marketing and commercial director of B&Q.

Majestic said Colley had “professionalised the business and built much better processes that go with that task”.

Gormley added: “John leaves with our best wishes, and our heartfelt thanks for the hard work, dedication and expertise he has given us.

“For the first time in many years Majestic is organically growing sales and our job is now to accelerate that by building our customer base through loyalty.

“This is exactly what gets me excited and what I love doing so it's a perfect time for me to get more involved.”

In Majestic's latest trading statement, it reported like-for-like sales growth in retail of 7.5% in the 10 weeks to January 2.
