Chateau Lafite set to make London Wine Fair debut

10 March, 2017

The Rothschild Collection will make its London Wine Fair debut this year and a special invitation-only tasting will see one bottle of 2010 Chateau Lafite opened.

The trade can apply to Helen Miller, national sales director at UK distributor Waddesdon Wine, for a place at the tasting.

Its presence at the fair is part of a strategy to reach UK high-end on-trade and retailers.

Waddesdon Wine will bring a full portfolio of wines from each arm of the Rothschild winemaking family: Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), Baron Philippe de Rothschild (Mouton), Château Clarke (Baron Edmond de Rothschild) and Champagne Barons de Rothschild.

Alongside the 2010 Chateau Lafite tasting, highlights include Champagne Barons de Rothschild’s first vintage offering, the 2006.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
