Buckingham Schenk boosts Spanish portfolio

21 February, 2017

Buckingham Schenk has revealed plans to introduce two new Spanish brands into the UK; the wines will highlight the strengths of DO Valencia and Utiel-Requena.

These new brands, Gran Castillo and La Pepica, will be unveiled to the trade at the Wines from Spain Annual Trade Tasting next month in London.

Gran Castillo, which was founded in 2008, has been inspired by the Spanish kingdom of the Castillo-era. The winery is located in Requena near Valencia and the wines combine a thousand-year-old wine culture with modern wine making techniques. Gran Castillo is already distributed in 23 countries and Buckingham Schenk will now have a range comprising three tiers for the UK market. These are: Gran Castillo Signature, Gran Castillo Family Selection and Gran Castillo Reserva. There will also be a Dulce de Moscatel dessert wine and a Gran Castillo Ice sparkling wine.

Buckingham Schenk will also launch La Pepica, which is a new range inspired by and named after the famous paella restaurant, La Pepica, founded in Valencia in 1898. The range includes a red Monastrell and a white Viura Sauvignon Blanc from DO Valencia, which are both served as house wines in the restaurant.

Craig Durham, managing director at Buckingham Schenk, said: “We are incredibly privileged to work with such premium Spanish producers which allows us to offer some outstanding wines to both our on and off-trade customers. There is a real buzz around Spain right now and we are confident that our two new brands will add to our already strong Spanish offering.”

Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
