Spirit Cartel launches two "unique" rums into UK market

24 October, 2016

Spirit Cartel has launched two unique aged rums from Puerto Rico.

Don Q rum has two lauched for the UK market: La Reserva de la Familia Serralles and the 2005 Signature Release Single Barrel. The two rums are a celebration of the brand’s 150th anniversary and six generations of rum-making history.

The Signature Single Barrel 2005 rum (rrp £40) is the first single-barrel expression ever to be released by Don Q and is part of a limited edition series, with only 6,000 bottles produced. The vintage rum, which was laid to age in American white oak barrels in 2005 for 10 years and bottled in 2015, is described as offering rich and buttery notes that warm the palate. Every bottles includes an engraved signature from the Master Distiller.

The Reserva de la Familia Serralles is Don Q’s most elite rum to date, according to the company. It was launched last year and is now available to the UK for the first time.  It has been hand-selected by sixth-generation distiller, Roberto Serralles, and is a blend of 20-year-old rums from its oldest barrels. In keeping with the company’s birthdate, only 1,865 bottles have been produced and are available with the price tag of £1,865. The limited edition rum, which has aromas of vanilla, oak, burnt wood and molasses, is presented in a luxurious gift box.

Roberto Serrallés, sixth generation rum maker, said: “It has been an exciting time for us with the launch of these two exceptional rums. The UK is a very important market for us and we’re looking forward to growing our brand in this country with the help of the Spirit Cartel family, who are known for their portfolio of ‘best in class’ brands”.

Charles Marshall, Spirit Cartel Consiglieri, said: “We punch above our weight in premium brand building and we partner with brands that offer distinction and that je ne sais quoi. The Don Q family has been crafting rum with pride for over 150 years and are on a constant quest for quality and perfection, which they’ve certainly achieved with both these blends”.

Another new addition to the Don Q portfolio in the UK includes Don Q 151, a blend of heavy and light rums aged up to three years.
