Litmus launches English sparkling wine and gin fusion brand

10 October, 2016

Litmus Wines is launching a drink which taps into the popularity of both English sparkling wine and craft gin.

Ginking, which is described as “botanically infused English fizz” is a blend of English sparkling wine with London Gin and natural spring water from Wiltshire, resulting in an 8.5% abv drink.

Speaking to OLN, chief winemaker John Worontschak said: “It’s carbonated and it’s lower in alcohol than most sparkling wines, so it also taps into the trend for lower alcohol drinks. It’s also a premium drink and will be priced around £12.99; it’s quite an adult drink and it’s refreshing.

“We have got quite high hopes for this as it is getting a lot of people excited and people do like the concept. We are releasing it now but we will give it a full launch next Spring. Initially we are releasing 3,700 bottles for the soft launch.”

“I think some traditional people might think it's not good for the English wine sector but I think they would be wrong; it's not trying to be an English sparkling wine.

"It’s a bit of fun. Everyone really likes the packaging and taste, and we spent a long time making sure the packaging was premium. It is either going to work or it’s going to work really well. It is good value because it is English sparkling wine that we use to create it and therefore it's a premium product.”

The producer recommends serving Ginking chilled in a Champagne flute or as a long drink on its own, or with a twist of orange peel.
