Ridgeview moves distribution to Bibendum

10 August, 2016

Ridgeview Wine Estate has become the first big name in the wine world to switch its distribution over to Bibendum following the distributor's acquisition by wine supply giant Conviviality earlier this year.

As of 1st September Ridgeview English wines will be available to independent retailers through Bibendum’s Walker & Wodehouse arm, while branded products will be distributed to multiple retail via PLB and to the on-trade via Bibendum. Until September its wines will continue to be distributed by Enotria&Coe.

The family-run Ridgeview, which was founded in 1995 in the South Downs of England, is known for its award-winning sparkling wines made from the traditional grape varieties used in the production of Champagne. Earlier this year Ridgeview was named as one of Downing Street’s official wines while its wines have also been served by The Queen at state banquets at Buckingham Palace and for the official Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Tamara Roberts, ceo of Ridgeview, said: “Enotria& Coe has been a huge supporter of ours since the beginning and we are grateful for all their work establishing Ridgeview in the trade. We are now looking forward to a new partnership with the biggest drinks provider in the UK, and are excited about the opportunities it will bring.”

Andrew Shaw, buying director for Bibendum, PLB and Walker & Wodehouse, said: “We are delighted that Ridgeview has chosen us as their new partner. The wines are regularly picking up top awards and the team’s dedication and passion is inspiring. I am looking forward to being able to offer existing and future customers the Ridgeview portfolio which will bring further impact to our already great quality English wine range.”

Ridgeview is currently in the process of expanding its production capabilities in order to fulfil demand. The company will see production rise to 400,000 by 2020.

Bibendum and its associated companies are now wholly owned subsidiaries of Conviviality Plc following its acquisition by Conviviality in May this year. In 2014 Bibendum merged with the PLB Group. Bibendum sells to the UK on trade while PLB focuses on multiple retail. Walker & Wodehouse sells to independent retail and wholesale.
