Pyrat XO rum joins Spirit Cartel range

03 August, 2016

Spirit Cartel has added Pyrat XO Reserve rum to its portfolio.

The rum is a blend of rums, some aged for up to 15 years in a solera system, and comes in individually-numbered decanters featuring the image of Hoti, a Buddhist god of contentment considered to be the patron saint and protector of bartneders.

Charles Marshall, Spirit Cartel’s “consiglieri”, said: “We take on brands with provenance and stories that challenge, shake up the market and inspire bartenders and we think this rum will do just that.”

The rum has an rrp of £39.99 and is available to the luxury off-trade as well as the on-trade.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
