New era dawns for Surrey wine shop
Surrey’s Cellar Magneval wine shop and wine bar group has split in two with its site in Ripley in the county relaunched as Cellar Wines.
Co-owner Steve Rasmussen has bought out fellow shareholders Jo and Thierry de Magneval to become sole owner of Ripley site.
The de Magnevals retain control of two wine bars that operate under the Cellar Magneval name in Woking in Surrey and Fleet in Hampshire.
Andy Walton, who joined the Ripley shop from west London independent Good Wine Shop earlier this year, is managing Cellar Wines, which is styling itself as an “artisan wines, spirits and gourmet delicatessen”.
Walton said: “The name has changed but also the concept of what we’re offering.
“Originally it was very much about French wines but we’re now going to open up to the world focusing on smaller producers and seeking out interesting parcels of wine.”
He told OLN that other sites could follow.
“We’ve been looking at a few other sites but Ripley is going to be the nerve centre and we want to make sure we’ve got that right first.
“It’s possible we could be looking at something this side of Christmas.”
