Tesco launches Champagne deal to woo Easter shoppers

23 March, 2016

Tesco is selling a bottle of Champagne for less than £7.50 per bottle over the Easter period.

The Pol Aimé Brut Champagne, which was recently awarded a Silver Medal by the International Wine Challenge (2016 Tranche 1), is normally available in Tesco stores for £9.95 but a 25% off promotion over the 12 next days (until 3 April) means it can be bought at just £7.46 per bottle.

Pol Aimé Brut is made exclusively for Tesco and is described as being clean, refreshing and elegant with aromas of citrus fruit and hints of yeast and toastiness.

Rob Dixon, buying manager for Champagne at Tesco, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer our shoppers Champagne at such fantastic value. With prices like this we are certain our customers will have plenty to celebrate this Easter.”

The £7.46 price will only apply if customers purchase any six or more bottles of wine in stores or online during the promotion period.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
