Edinburgh Gin adds seaside-inspired gin to core range

Edinburgh Gin is expanding its core range as a result of “soaring customer demand”.

The distiller is adding the 43% abv Seaside Gin to its permanent portfolio, to sit alongside Edinburgh Gin Original and the 57% abv Navy Strength Cannonball. Seaside Gin was first launched last summer as a limited edition – a sell-out run of 2,500 bottles.

This month the gin will return with an initial run of 6,000 70cl bottles, priced at £35 each. The gin is a longstanding collaboration between Edinburgh Gin and Heriot Watt University’s MSc in Brewing & Distilling.

As part of the project, masters students were tasked with scouring the east coast in search of botanicals that would encapsulate the taste of the Scottish shoreline. As a result, the gin has been distilled with foraged seaweed, scurvy grass and ground ivy.

Signature serves include a classic G&T or a seaside martini, with recommended garnishes such as marsh samphire, sea purslane or a slice of fresh lemon.

Co-founder Alex Nichol said: “The expansion of our core range is testament to customer appetite for distinctively different gins that blend art and science. It is a delight to see Seaside Gin added to our permanent roster and that there is demand for a gin that pioneers the use of unusual native botanicals such as this.”

The distillers’ trio of gins are all presented in the brand’s new custom-made bottles, crafted in Milan by Bruni Glass.
