Heathwick adds Saugatuck Backyard IPA to US craft beer portfolio

11 January, 2016

Heathwick, the import, distribution and brand-building specialist, is to launch a new US craft IPA on the UK market.

Backyard IPA from Michigan’s Saugatuck Brewing Co, is a 4.5% abv beer which is packaged in 355ml bottles.

It is the latest addition to Heathwick’s existing Saugatuck’s range, which includes ESB Amber Ale at 5.5% abv, Oval Beach Blonde at 5%, and Neapolitan Milk Stout at 6%.

The ESB Amber Ale won a gold medal at last year’s Brussels Beer Challenge.

Graham Richardson, general manager of Heathwick, said:  “Session IPAs with mid-range abvs are growing rapidly in the UK and the interest in American craft beers shows no signs of abating.

“New Backyard IPA fits the UK beer drinkers’ palate perfectly and is hoppy enough to deliver flavour while being highly quaffable.

“The Saugatuck range is in strong demand amongst our customers, especially the Neapolitan Milk Stout at this time of year, and we anticipate healthy sales for the latest addition.”

Founded in 2005, the Saugatuck Brewing Co’s primary market spreads across Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, northern Indiana and Minnesota.

However, its beers are now available in a limited number of export markets, including the UK.

Saugatuck Backyard IPA comes in cases of 24, with an RSP of £2.29.

Heathwick’s distribution network includes a wide range of independent retailers across London and the south east, together with the likes of Oddbins and Booths Stores in the North West.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
