Sponsored walk raises nearly £25,000 for The Benevolent

24 September, 2015

Treasury Wine Estates has raised nearly £25,000 for The Benevolent in a massive sponsored walk.

Thirty-six members of the TWE team took on the challenge of Benevolent chairman Dan Townsend, the company’s general manager for the UK, Ireland and western Europe, and between them walked more than 1,700km on the Thames Path Challenge.

The challenge starts at Putney Bridge and finishes either in Hampton (25km), Runnymede (50km) or Henley (100km).

Townsend said: “The team chose their own personal challenge, from walking 25km, to running 100km – and everything in between. I wanted to choose something really inclusive for my fundraiser – so the Thames Path Challenge was perfect.”

Benevolent chief executive David Cox and staff from Enotria, Negociants and the WSET joined TWE on the sponsored walk.

The Benevolent offers financial, emotional and practical support to those in the drinks trade who are suffering from illness, disability or when an individual’s quality of life has been devastated by sad or unforeseen circumstances.

Cox said: “Dan’s Chairman’s Challenge initiative certainly inspired his TWE team and many other trade participants too, and our own Benevolent Team were delighted to take part. It is just this kind of amazing charity fundraising event that epitomises the drinks trade because it inspires many to enjoy testing themselves and it certainly inspires many to donate incredibly generously. The wonderful sum raised will allow us to expand the immensely valuable work that we do supporting those in the trade less fortunate than ourselves and we thank everyone who took part and donated.”
