New website for sherry

10 September, 2015

Sherry’s regulatory body has launched an updated website – sherry.org – to mark its 80th anniversary.

The Consejo Regulador for the Jerez denomination has also rebranded internationally as Sherry Wines.

The new-look site aims to update sherry’s image and remind consumers that it is a wine, not just an aperitif.

It includes food pairings and cocktail recipes as well as information on how sherry wines are made, and aims to bring together a worldwide community of sherry aficionados including chefs, sommeliers, bloggers and food writers.

Consejo director general Cesar Saldaña said: “The new website combines deep roots with a projection towards the future.

“We are appealing to a new generation of sherry drinkers. Sherry is integrally tied up with the culture of this region, of Andalucia. There’s lots of passion here, and we want that to be a part of our identity.”

The Great Sherry Tasting takes place on Monday (September 14) at the Westbury Hotel, off London’s Bond Street.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
