Berry Bros releases The Glenrothes Vintage Reserve

20 July, 2015

Berry Bros. & Rudd is releasing The Glenrothes Vintage Reserve, a Speyside whisky that blends a host of vintages from the past three decades.

It set out to create a balanced whisky marrying “mature experience” with “vibrant youth” and has selected vintages aged in a variety of casks.

It said the older vintages bring mellow oak and dried fruits, while the younger vintages bring notes of sweet vanilla and citrus.

Malt Master Gordon Motion selected the vintages and used character and flavour as his guide, rather than a pre-determined age.

Ronnie Cox, The Glenrothes brand heritage director, said: “This is our most complex Reserve to date. Unlike other malts that bottle by age, we choose whiskies that represent the best of a particular year and marry them together when they are ready. That is in contrast to many distillers who bottle simply based on the age of a whisky. The emphasis is on the quality, taste and flavour of the whisky – not the age.”
The Glenrothes Vintage Reserve is available at The Whisky Exchange and Gordon & MacPhail, with a rrp of £39.99.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
