Saint James rum launches 250th anniversary bottle

05 June, 2015

Martinique rum Saint James is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year with a special commemorative bottle and a marketing campaign.

The Saint James plantations on the Caribbean island started making rum in 1765, making it one of the world’s oldest producers.

Today the iconic Rhum Agricole is still produced in Martinique, which has the only rum AOC in the world.

It is stocked at The Whisky Exchange and independent retailers in the UK.

The new Saint James Cuvée 1765 is a blend created in homage to the original 18th century style and is described as “the epitome of the quality of the products Saint James offers”.

Next month, from July 6-12, the distillery will enjoy 250th anniversary celebrations in Martinique and the commemorative limited-edition will be launched then.

“It is an ultra-premium blend of six of the best Saint James vintages, presented in a luxurious glass flagon with embossed metal neck,” said international brand manager Nadège Perrot.

A multimedia marketing campaign and POS will also tie in with the celebrations.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
