Wine trade supergroup teams up with Côtes du Rhône generic

Music lovers attending the charity gig put on by wine trade supergroup Skin Côntact at London’s Vinopolis next month can enjoy tasting around 50 Côtes du Rhône wines.

OLN columnist Richard Hemming has joined forces with MWs Anne McHale and Alex Hunt, Bordeaux Cellar founder Matt James, Concha y Toro PR boss Ben Smith and PR Helen Chesshire to form the band.

It will play a gig to raise money for Comic Relief on March 9, fronted by a succession of wine trade personalities such as Joe Wadsack and Tim Atkin MW.

Before the gig a tasting of 50 red, white and rosé wines will run from 6.30 to 7.30pm at Vinopolis for those with tickets.

Côtes du Rhône generic body Inter-Rhône has also donated all the wines to accompany the evening’s entertainment, which follows the tasting.

Inter-Rhône’s Agnès Heller said: “Our region takes its winemaking seriously, but as you know a good sense of humour is something that is very dear to our hearts and we believe that wine should be about sharing and memorable moments.  

“This event is the perfect partnership for us - a great evening in aid of a fun and fantastic cause. We’re so pleased to be a part of it.”

This will be the first and last ever performance from Skin Côntact, the brainchild of Hemming, who carefully hand-selected band members from the fertile field of the UK wine trade.  

The OLN columnist said: “We’ll be playing cover versions of classic, well loved floor-fillers, then there’s a very special guest DJ spinning the wheels of stainless steel and an exclusive pre-gig tasting of Côtes du Rhône wines.

“We’re going to give the UK wine trade the best party of the year. All of the ticket price is going to Wine Relief, the trade’s fundraising initiative for Comic Relief, to tie in with Red Nose Day 2015.”
