Hatch Mansfield adds Te Awa to its ranks

Hatch Mansfield has added boutique winery Te Awa to its portfolio after the New Zealand producer parted ways with Bibendum.

Te Awa comprises a single estate vineyard and winery in the Gimblett Gravels wine region in Hawkes Bay and produces small batches of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Cabernet-Merlot blends.

Hatch Mansfield will also take on the winery’s Left Field brand.

It joins a portfolio of family-owned wineries boasting the likes of Louis Jadot, New Zealand’s Villa Maria, Errazuriz and Taittinger at Hatch Mansfield.

The firm’s managing director Patrick McGrath MW said: “Having worked with great New Zealand wines for 20 years in the UK, we are thrilled to now be adding Te Awa and Left Field to our portfolio.  

“I would like to thank Bibendum for all the hard work that they have done with the wines in recent years. The wines are simply fantastic. We are sure the ranges are going to have quite an impact when we launch them in 2015.”

Ali Campbell, brand manager for Te Awa, said she hoped for “a long and prosperous partnership” with Hatch Mansfield.

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
