Waitrose poll names Buck's Fizz king at Christmas

26 November, 2014

Buck’s Fizz is the nation’s favourite Christmas tipple, according to a survey of 1,000 people by Waitrose Cellar.

Thirty-two per cent of respondents plumped for the Champagne and orange juice mix, putting it comfortably ahead of second-placed Irish coffee, which 26% enjoyed.

Mulled wine was the third favourite on 25%, with Baileys joint fourth with red wine on 20%. Eighteen per cent said they drink Champagne and 13% said white wine, with Prosecco scoring just 9%.

Champagne was most popular among younger drinkers, with 22% of under-25s enjoying it at Christmas, while Baileys dominated the 25-54 age bracket, with 65% picking it as a favourite festive drink.

Robert McCarthy, head of Waitrose Cellar, said: “Food and drink are the centre of Christmas Day celebrations, bringing families together to create lasting memories.

“If customers are looking for Christmas drink ideas to match their festive foods, we've pulled together some useful advice on food and drink pairings as well as festive cocktail recipes for inspiration at waitrosecellar.com.
