Bibendum offers trade sake training

Bibendum has hired sake consultant Natsuki Kiyuka to host trade training sessions that educate retailers about the Japanese drink.

The supplier launched a sake range earlier this year and wants to teach the trade about the production process, the various styles, how to serve and store it and what food to pair it with.

Students will also be taught what temperature sake should be served at as Bibendum wants to challenge the preconception that it has to be warm.

Managing director Michael Saunders said: “Sake is really taking off in this country and we have seen incredible interest in the category from our trade customers since we launched our range in July.

“Sake training is a natural extension of our existing wine and spirits education programmes and demonstrates our commitment to helping our customers understand and sell top quality drinks.”

Kikuya added: “The session has been designed for people who are new to selling sake and will show how the category can complement wines, spirits and beers on a drinks list. Bibendum’s new sake range offers a wide variety of styles and flavours and staff training is key to introducing drinkers to the category and helping them understand the versatility and excitement of premium sake.”

Bibendum’s first sake training session will take place on November 12.

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
