Morrisons wine uses 64% less aluminium than screw cap
Morrisons has topped its own-label Soave with an “environmentally friendly closure” that is said to use 64% less aluminium than a traditional screw cap.
The Green Leaf closure has been trialled in Italy, Australia and New Zealand and makes its UK debut at Morrisons.
The supermarket said the closure can be completely removed from the bottle, making it better for recycling, and will take up less space in transit, resulting in a 60% reduction in the size of cap shipments to its bottling plant.
BWS category director Steve Mosey said: “This new launch is proof of our ambition to drive innovation in the category which our BWS team has worked hard to keep fresh and relevant to our customers. We are proud to take responsibility for our own carbon reduction whule keeping prices low.”
Packaging development manager Steve Jackson added: “Carbon reduction is highly important in all areas of our business and I am very pleased to have worked with the BWS team to launch this new closure.”
