Wine Australia to host London tasting in September

04 August, 2014

Wine Australia is returning to London this September for a free-pour showcase of 100 wines after hailing last year’s inaugural event a success.

The generic body’s Inspired Tasting will take place at Australia House on September 12 and feature such labels as Cullen, Dominique Portet, Grosset, mac forbes, Ocean Eight and Bindi.

The trade can also discover wines from boutique producers seeking UK representation, while Justin Knock MW will present masterclasses on Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.

UK events and education Manager Emma Symington said: “This tasting not only enables our guests to taste through some 100 Australian wines, it presents them in context of time and place, adding an emotional element to a tasting in a way that is unique to the UK market.

“Last year’s event was so successful that we received feedback along the lines of this being the most cutting edge collection of Australian wine in London. We look forward to offering an equally impressive line up again in September.”

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
