Tesco adds to Finest wine range

Tesco has added seven new wines to its premium Finest range.

The additions include Cobblestone Shiraz from Western Australia (£15.99) and Valdabbiadene DOCG Prosecco NV at £14.99.

France provides three new wines: St Chinian 2013 (£8.99); Domaine Aubersmenil Fitou 2012 (£7.99); and Font Benne Medoc 2012 (£8.99).

The new line-up is completed by Grechetto 2013 (£6.99) from Italy and a Slovenian Riesling (£7.99).

"Each one has ben carefully selected to offer something special for the customer," said product development manager Laura Jewell MW. "The secret of our success is working clsoely with winemakers to source the best quality wines possible, as well as listening to our customers to understand exactly what they like to drink."

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
