New shop for Tanners

11 July, 2014

Tanners has opened a new shop in Shrewsbury’s Wyle Cop shopping centre.

A Taste of Tanners holds a smaller range than Tanners’ larger Cellars shop, as a more accessible showcase for what is available in the bigger outlet.

Shoppers in the new store will have the chance to try before they buy and purchase single glasses of wine through a Wine Emotion dispensing system – the first of its kind in Shropshire, according to Tanners.

There will also be a number of wine-related luxury gifts on sale.

A Taste of Tanners is linked to the rest of the historic Tanners building by a rear courtyard, and it is likely that the building was once part of the wine merchant’s larger premises, which date back to 1842.

The shop was a bakery at some point in its past, and an old cooking range has been preserved as part of the refit.

Chairman James Tanner said: “It is tremendous after 172 years to have our first shop frontage directly on Wyle Cop. Along with the courtyard it makes Tanners probably the most exciting venue for wine events outside London.”
