Lakes Distillery launches first whisky blended from all British Isles

10 July, 2014

The Lakes Distillery has created what it believes is the first blend of whiskies from around the British Isles and launched it nationally through luxury department store Harvey Nichols.

The One combines whiskies from Scotland, Ireland, Wales and England and has already been exported to the Netherlands, France, Belgium and the UAE before its UK release.

Founder and managing director Paul Currie said: “Harvey Nichols has become synonymous with British style and excellence, qualities which directly resonate with The One’s brand values. The One is very much an artisan blend – the team in Cumbria has enormous experience in making the very finest whiskies, and their expertise has put together this outstanding blend, which has a lightly peated character and is already making an impact on the growing premium whisky sector.”

The whisky comes in a 70cl bottle or in a gift box including a bottle and two branded glasses.

The Lakes Distillery is a new £5 million distillery in Cumbria, set up by Currie, who was one of the co-founders of Isle of Arran Distillers, and master distiller Chris Anderson, formerly of Dewars.

It is currently being built, and when complete will be England’s biggest distillery, producing more than 1 million bottles of The Lakes Malt per year.

Production of a Lakes Distillery whisky, gin and vodka are to start this summer and its bistro, tours and shop will open to the public by December.

Agreeing to disagree

Disagreeing about wine is a fact of wine-trade life, like drugs in sport or corruption in politics. Because taste is entirely subjective, debates about our personal preferences are as inevitable as they are interminable. Indeed, these long-winded, wine-fuelled arguments are precisely what make our jobs so much fun.
