Diageo makes whisky art of Masterchef finalists' faces

Diageo has commissioned food artist Nathan Wyburn to create portraits of the Masterchef finalists out of whisky grains, berries and honey to celebrate the final of the hit show this week.

The supplier is using the stunt to promote two new expressions of The Singleton whisky called Tailfire and Sunray.

The faces of Ping Coombes, Jack Lucas, Luke Owens and Angela Langford – who departed the show last night in fourth place – have been put on display at the Singleton Whisky Night Market on London’s south bank.

Sunray is aged in American oak casks and has a smooth, honeyed taste – hence the honey used in the art – and retails for £36 at indies including Alexander & James.

Tailfire is described as a vibrant and fruity whisky – hence the berries – and has already picked up a listing at Tesco, where it retails at £33.

Diageo master blender Dr Matthew Crow said: “Tailfire and Sunray embody the future of whisky, and have been created to inspire a new generation of whisky drinkers. The Singleton is a much loved Speyside whisky, and has always put great taste and flavour at the heart of their single malts.”

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
