Scottish brewer rebranded as Black Wolf

Stirling-based Traditional Scottish Ales has relaunched under the name Black Wolf Brewery.

The new name refers to a local legend about a wolf that saved the city from Viking invaders in the ninth century.

Andrew Richardson, a former Courage and Diageo executive who joined directors Carlo Valente and Graham Coull on the board and as an investor at the end of 2013, said: “The black wolf is synonymous with the area and its history.

“We want to be known as a brewery that is passionate about the quality and taste of its beers, that is creative and is willing to experiment, and above all which makes beers that people enjoy.

“We also want to have some fun along the way, which is what beer is really all about.”

The launch is being marked by the release of a range of craft bottled beers comprising the elderflower wheat beer Tundra, Florida Black stout and Big Red.

Also new is the bottled premium lager called Coulls.

The existing range, including Lomond Gold, Glencoe and Ben Nevis, will appear in new Black Wolf clothing over the coming months.

Valente said: “We now have a very strong range of beers which we will be taking to new and existing customers, and we expect to see our market share grow.”

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
