New Bargain Booze ad breaks

10 April, 2014

A new Bargain Booze ad debuts on ITV tonight after the retailer decided to shout about the range of deals it is offering its shoppers over Easter.

The TV ad features a pair of news anchors presenting “Bargain Booze News” and reporting on all the promotions.

The female reporter will inform the nation: “There’s good news on public spending – beer and cider is just £9.99 a case.”

The male anchor then says: “News from overseas – Irish cream is now £3.99.”

The actors are referring to Carolans, which is down from £10.09 to £3.99, and 15-packs of Foster’s and Strongbow 44cl cans, which are £9.99.

As they speak text flashes across the screen showing that Gallo White Grenache is down from £6.99 to £3.99.

The ad will run on the ITV network for two weeks and will be supported by radio and outdoor advertising.

Adam Burnett, Bargain Booze marketing director, said: “All of the 600 stores in our network are owned by local business people, and the ad will play a big role in driving footfall into their stores by creating awareness of the strength of the Easter promotions they’ll have in-store.”

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
