Eight retailers join trip to California

09 April, 2014

Eight retailers have been chosen to visit the Golden State on a wine buying trip in a promotion run by OLN and the Wine Institute of California.

The retailers will go on a week-long, all-expenses paid trip from June 22-29 and meet the producers behind iconic brands and lesser-known gems.

They will then run an in-store promotion on Californian wines in September and the best one will win a 3 Modular sampling system from Wine By The Glass for their outlet, plus glassware from Riedel.

The list of retailers going on the trip is as follows:

  • Dafydd Morris, Cheers Wine Merchants
  • Samantha Jackson, Chester Beer & Wine
  • Jon Campbell, Define Food and Wine
  • Ben Watkins, The Guildford Wine Company
  • Ben Stephenson, Hanging Ditch
  • Ed Wells, Harper Wells
  • Andrew Lundy, Vino
  • Kelli Coxhead, The Wine Tasting Shop

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
