C&C buys out Wallaces Express

18 March, 2014

Magners owner C&C Group has taken full ownership of Wallaces Express, the Scottiish wines and spirits wholesaler in which it took a 50% stake a year ago.

The wholesale business will be rebranded as Wallaces TCB.

John Gilligan, managing director of Tennent Caldeonaian Breweries, which is also owned by C&C, said: "We have worked to provide our customers with a one-stop shop for all their alcoholic and soft drinks needs as part of our strategy of developing a multi-beverage platform in the Scottish drinks amrket.

"We plan to grow the business further, finding more opportunities for cross-selling to our customers."

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
