Estrella launches 50cl cans

Spanish lager producer Estrella Galicia has launched 50cl cans into the UK market and is targeting convenience and cash and carry channels.

To push the brand into the market it has taken over from Red Stripe as the official sponsor of Oval Space, an alternative music venue in east London.

For the next 12 months it will sponsor 12 different gigs, where it will be the sole beer supplier and see its branding on tickets, in the main arena and on the website.

PLB is the sole distributor of Estrella Galicia in the UK and its brand manager Lindsay Castling said: “We were proud to bring the flagship beer, Estrella Galicia, to the UK [in 2012] and since its launch the brand has had a great response from the British public.

“With the UK launch of our 50cl Estrella Galicia 4.7% cans, we hope to continue to drive this momentum – supported by excellent partnerships, such as our sponsorship of the Oval Space. This activity is a great coup for us – especially taking the place of such a well-known brand as Red Stripe as suppliers – and the additional sponsorship fits perfectly with our brand ethos and target market.

“We look forward to working with Oval Space this year and seeing the reception this product gets in both the UK on-trade and off-trade.”

Other beers within the range are the 1906 Reserva Especial and an alcohol free variant.
