Premium addition for Les Dauphins

30 January, 2014

Rhône producer Cellier des Dauphins has added a premium “cru” level, rrp £9.99, to its Les Dauphins brand.

Les Dauphins Cru des Côtes du Rhône 2012 will be released at France Under One Roof on March 3.

The wine comes from Vinsobres, one of 14 Rhône villages to be granted “cru” status because of the high quality of their wines.

Winemaker Thierry Walet has described the wine as “rich, spicy, well-structured and full-flavoured”.

Richard Evans, director of supplier Dedicated Wines, said: “The new Les Dauphins ‘cru’ level wine offers consumers equal quality to Châteauneuf du Pape, but at a fraction of the price. We are excited by this innovative addition to the Les Dauphins brand which, since launch in 2011, has far exceeded all of our expectations in terms of sales and consumer response.”

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
