Marblehead signs up ginger liqueur

09 January, 2014

Marblehead has signed up French ginger liqueur Domaine de Canton, made with fresh baby ginger from Vietnam.

The brand is made in Jarnac, in the Cognac region, and blends VSOP and Grande Champagne XO Cognac with ginger.

It is popular as a cooking ingredient as well as in cocktails, according to Marblehead.

Managing director Emma Wykes said: “We are really excited to be working with this internationally successful brand and this demonstrates Marblehead’s place in the industry as an independent, brand-building developer.

“We have a strong portfolio of brands with integrity and Domaine de Canton will fit very well into our range of spirits, which includes Davna Bizon, Czeri and Hani Vodka, Skipper Rum, Aqua Riva Tequila, Berkeley Square London Dry Gin, Opihr Oriental Spiced Gin and Toussaint Coffee Liqueur. Domaine de Canton is a high quality liqueur which is much admired in the on-trade and we are delighted that Maurice Cooper & Cie has chosen Marblehead as custodian of its premium brand.”

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
