Wine Rack launches spirits festival

05 December, 2013

Wine Rack is holding a “Festival of Spirits” in all stores in the run-up to Christmas.

The chain, which was recently purchased by Bargain Booze owner Conviviality Retail, wants to remind customers that it has “a choice of over 300 spirits brands and the best selection on the high street”.

The promotion includes in-store tastings, on-pack offers and reduced prices across 10 different spirits categories – absinthe, Armagnac, Calvados, brandy, gin, golden and spiced Caribbean rums, Grappa, French liqueurs, vodka and tequila.

The festival is organised in conjunction with Emporia Brands, whose chairman James Rackham said: “We have worked with Wine Rack stores for the last three years to increase awareness of their fantastic selection of spirits and to help with staff training and product knowledge of all the spirit categories.

“Every Wine Rack store manager has attended our ‘Language of Spirits’ training course which is conducted in association with the WSET and we will be continuing our training courses in knowledge of spirits during 2014.”

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
