Stolichnaya releases NZ edition of super-premium Elit

31 October, 2013

Stolichnaya has released a New Zealand edition of its super-premium Elit Pristine Water Series.

Just 300 bottles have been produced, of which 30 will be on sale in the UK, in Harrods.

The vodka is made with water from New Zealand’s famous Blue Spring, where water which is filtered through pumice stones in the Mamaku mountains runs blue.

The water is blended with Alpha Spirit made in Latvia’s Latvijas Balzams distillery and freeze-filtered at -18ºC.

It is packed in a crystal bottle with a leather cuff designed by French crystal studio Royale de Champagne, in a case made from New Zealand’s prehistoric kauri wood.

Elit is 40% abv and will retail for £2,500 per bottle.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
