Tesco overhauls mobile wine site

12 August, 2013

Tesco has revamped its Wine by the Case mobile site after discovering that a quarter of its online wine sales now comes from shoppers using their mobile phones.

The retailer has responded to the findings by introducing a fresh look, grid views for easier scanning, larger images and a new structure to the product pages.

Shoppers can now also see feedback from fellow consumers on each wine.

Web development manager Lauren Penticost said:  “The refresh was designed to improve the overall look and feel of Wine by the Case and the customer experience.

“We will be monitoring the site closely over the coming weeks to understand what our customers think about the changes so that we can continue to improve.”

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
