Stella Artois gets the Slumdog Millionaire treatment in TV ad

22 May, 2013

An Oscar-winning cinematographer has been drafted in to add style to the upcoming TV ad from Stella Artois Cidre.

Anthony Dod Mantle, who worked on Slumdog Millionaire, will join Oscar-nominated director Wim Wenders to create the 30 and 40-second slots.

They will run across channels in August, along with a 60-second ad that will play out at cinemas.

The ad focuses on a sharply-dressed Le President who selects apples from the orchard before hosting a glittering party in a barn.

Andy Logan, marketing manager at Stella Artois Cidre, said: “We are delighted to have been able to work with Wim Wenders to produce an advert which again reminds consumers that Stella Artois Cidre is the most sophisticated cider; carefully crafted and presented like no others.”

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
