Kleine Zalze appoints new winemaker

South African winery Kleine Zalze said it is delighted to have snapped up winemaker RJ Botha to join its winery just outside Stellenbosch.

Botha was selected from 102 candidates, and will assist cellarmaster Johan Joubert in developing new premium white and red blends, the first of which are due for release in South Africa this year.

He spent an internship at Château Angelus in Bordeaux and five years as winemaker at Nitida in Durbanville, during which time he was named Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year 2010.

Joubert said: “We are delighted to have made this appointment. His passion, and his belief in getting quality wines in the bottle matches ours.”

Botha added: “Kleine Zalze consistently produces great wines and to be involved in such a dynamic and forward thinking winery is a fantastic opportunity for me.”

Kleine Zalze wines are distributed in the UK off-trade by Hatch Mansfield.
