Nyetimber launches Valentine's Day competition

27 January, 2013

Nyetimber aims to add sparkle to this year’s Valentine’s Day with a Facebook campaign called Celebrating British Romance.

Every day from February 1-13 the English sparkling wine producer will give away a bottle of its Rosé 2008 via a competition on its Facebook page.

And one lucky consumer will win a romantic meal for two on the big day, prepared by Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge at Hand & Flowers.

To enter the competition, participants will be asked to test their knowledge by identifying the authors of some of the “greatest quotations in British romantic literature”, from Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte to D.H. Lawrence and E.M. Forster.

Christian Holthausen, Nyetimber’s marketing & communications manager, said: “The purpose of this campaign is to salute the greatest authors of British romantic literature, and like Nyetimber, each one of them is a ‘British Original’ in every sense of the word.”

Nyetimber will choose a winner at 3pm every day, and the participant with the most correct answers by February 14 will receive the grand prize of the three-course meal paired with a selection of wines from Nyetimber.

Nyetimber Rosé 2008 is available from Lea & Sandeman, Berry Bros & Rudd and Waitrose, among others, with an rrp of Ł45.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
