Absolut launches new flavour

12 November, 2012

Premium vodka brand Absolut has added Absolut Orient Apple to its range in the hope it will be used as a base for Christmas cocktails.

The new flavour has an rrp of £26.99 and is available now in Selfridges.

The bottle features a carved golden apple surrounded by white transparent ginger leaves. The makers claim that when the bottle is full the golden apple appears to be floating due to the bottle’s “lens effect”.

Adam Boita, marketing manager at brand owner Pernod Ricard UK, said: “Ever since the release of our first flavoured vodka, Absolut Peppar, we have endeavoured to deliver flavours that tap into consumer trends and provide bartenders and consumers with inspiration to create dynamic new cocktails.

“Absolut Orient Apple brings another premium new flavour profile to the market blending fresh apple with the warm spice of ginger, making it the perfect base for many cocktails this Christmas.”

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
