Olympic beer features ingredients from five continents

11 July, 2012

Suffolk brewer Adnams has launched a limited edition beer called Flame Runner that will commemorate the start of the London Olympics.

The beer uses ingredients from each of the five continents competing in the Games and has a “malty backbone balanced by orange peel bitterness”.

The ingredients list consists of malted barley from Europe, hops from Australasia and spices from Africa, Asia and America.

Adnams said the beer is a clean and refreshing 3.9% pale ale with a spicy citrus and subtle ginger aroma.

Emma Hibbert, head of corporate affairs at Adnams, said: “2012 has been, without at doubt, a year of celebration for the UK, offering a whole host of festivities including the Diamond Jubilee, Euro 2012 and London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

"Here at Adnams, we’ve really been getting into the spirit of things with the launch of Flame Runner, our recent Jubilee beer - Diamond Ale - and two new lower alcohol beers in Sole Star and Ginger Beer, which are perfect for summer celebrations.”

Adnams Flame Runner is already stocked in some outlets. Visit www.adnams .co.uk for more information.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
